Our Story
Ten Years of Helping Hands
Just A Helping Hand may be a new name, but the idea behind it isn't new.
For more than a decade, neighbors, churches, police officers, businesses, and generous individuals have come together to make Christmas brighter for local families. What began as a small holiday program serving just a few families grew year after year.
In the early days, Santa and volunteers delivered Christmas gifts and dinner directly to families' homes. During COVID, we adapted and invited families to come to us. Then in 2025, we took another big step. We stopped choosing the presents for families, and started letting families choose for themselves.
The heart of the program hasn't changed.
Every year, we try to do more.
This is what community looks like.
A church donates space and toys.
A second church donates hats and mittens.
A police association buys bikes to raffle for a fundraiser and assists in hauling hundreds of toys.
Local radio stations and publications offer advertising.
Dozens of neighbors send gifts from our wishlist.
A few teenagers volunteer.
A grocery store donates bags of non-perishables.
Someone shares our Facebook post to a local community forum.
Someone else offers to collect from their friends and deliver to us.
A local couple hears we are short of our goal and writes a check to cover the difference.
And somehow, all of those little acts of generosity become a room full of Christmas.
That's Just A Helping Hand.
